The gospel of Mark is such an incredible account of the life of Jesus. It is frenetic in it's pace, jumping from one story to the next, with a constant huge sense of urgency. It is terse in it's style, using few words and short descriptions, but each packed with detail and meaning. And it is incredibly clear in it's message ... from the very first verse we are left in no doubt that this is "The gospel" ... good news, which is about "Jesus Christ, Son of God".
In this series we will be going through the Gospel of Mark showing how it inexorably points us to Jesus. He is the only cleansing. He is the Son of God. He is divine. He is life. In Him there is victory. Only He offers complete healing. He alone is the Saviour, the promised Messiah.
And yet, Mark's gospel tells us from the very start that Jesus isn't the kind of Saviour we would expect. He has a humble background, he is rejected and despised, he is falsely accused. Though He is innocent he is crucified. Though He was pure, He was punished for sin - for our sin. Though He was dead, He rose victorious. He is not the 'Messiah' that the people expected, not the conquering King they wanted. Yet, Jesus was far, far more. He was the one promised throughout God's word, He is the Son of God, He is one with His Father. Yet He became a servant, suffered and died. And all this must happen (Mark 8:31-32) so that we could be saved.
