Bible Reading in 2013

We are so pleased that you are interested in reading the Bible and spending time with God in prayer in 2013.

In 2011 we, as a church, encouraged as many as could to follow through the E100 Bible Reading plan.  We had great feedback on that, and know that many were really blessed by using this scheme.

In 2012 we encouraged those who do not already have a Bible Reading plan to follow through a plan that we put together.

For 2013, we're encouraging you to consider following the 3 year "Walk With The Word" bible reading scheme that takes you through the Bible in three years with weekly email support.

Have you started a Bible Reading programme for 2013?

If not, can I invite you to consider a scheme that we would love folk in the church to do together?

The scheme we are recommended is called "Walk with the Word".  It's a three year scheme, giving you only two chapters a day to read on average and yet taking you though the whole Bible in three years.  With two chapters, you could potentially complete the reading each day in an average of 7 minutes, and so it's easy to find time to read - no excuses!!  But more time would, of course, be better;  then you can really think and pray through what you've read, seeking to apply God's word in the days ahead.

Getting going

To enable you to get going, we have two PDFs of the reading plan:

  • A bookmark of the weekly readings for you to cut out
  • A tri-fold A4 sheet with weekly readings and help in reading scripture wisely

The scheme 'cycles' so that you can pick it up at any time and from that time you will complete it three years later (I'll put the other years on this page as they become available).  So, if you're finishing off another scheme, just keep this and start off with this scheme from the date when you're ready!

You will see that there are just weekly readings given, not daily readings.  You can therefore structure your weekly reading as you wish ... for example, I have a five day plan so that I can catch up each week if I have a busy day and things get pushed out.

To help you along...

One advantage of this reading plan is that you can subscribe to a weekly email 'Newsletter' that provides questions, answers and applications that may be useful in your readings that week.  The weekly email is also a neat 'prompt' to continue with your reading!  You can subscribe to the weekly newsletter here: http://walkwiththeword.org/Newsletter/Subscriptions.html.  (Do note that the newsletter is American and so a bit colloquial, so just excuse the American-centric references!!).  There is also a supporting Facebook page.

If you have not seriously got down to personal Bible study before, the website that accompanies the reading plan (www.walkwiththeword.org) has great help on Bible Reading in the form of a book that can be read on the web or downloaded for off-line reading.  Just follow the chapter and section headings on the left hand side of their website.

Let's get going...

So, if you've not yet picked up on planned Bible readings for 2013, have a go at this!!

Even better, get alongside a few others and start off together ... you can check up on each other and share God's blessing to you as you go through the year!
