Building God's Church

The New Church Building

God’s church is not a single building or a series of worldwide buildings but is God’s people.

God’s church is a worldwide unity of those who believe and put their trust in Him, accepting that Christ is our personal saviour.  Jesus gave each of us the Great Commission … “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”.

At Street Baptist Church we see that an essential element of spreading the Good News starts with each of us in our own community.  That’s why many years ago, the leadership team at that time, had a clear vision to improve the existing church buildings so that they could be used for a growing church but also have the facilities that helped to reach out into the local community and the wider area of central Somerset.  During the intervening years, while various plans and projects were carried out, additional land was purchased at Glaston Road.  The physical numbers of our fellowship has out-grown the original building and four years ago we moved our Sunday morning service to Brookside School Community Hall and now regularly see over 200 of God’s people come together to worship our loving Father.

This growth in numbers and the vision to reach out into the community required a more radical plan to the building at Glaston Road and architects and surveyors were employed to look at a whole new extension to the current church building.

We have an amazing and awesome God, and for God, nothing is impossible.  At times over the last few years, when a number of obstacles were looming ahead, including when it appeared planning permission would not be granted,  God answered the prayers of our fellowship.

Just over a year ago work started on the new church building; over £600,000 had been raised by the fellowship that enabled all the groundwork, and framework to be completed.  Late last year the block work, timber cladding, windows and doors were completed.  And, within the last few weeks the drainage, internal walls, flooring and stairs have all been completed.  In total over £750,000 has been raised and spent to date.

So we come to June 2017; the next phase of the building project is to complete the external fire escapes and to do the first fix electrics, plumbing and heating, complete the carpentry and internal fixings and then the rendering and plastering.  The funds that we need to raise for this phase is £100,000 and a further £300,000 to complete the whole project.

This project has always been led by our prayers and God has been wonderful in providing resources; but we fully accept that it is through individual and small efforts that we do our part.  If you are reading this and would like to support our fund raising efforts to see God glorified and His work done in Street and the surrounding area of Somerset, then please pray.  We have witnessed God’s answers to our prayers and would welcome your prayers for all aspects of this project.  If you feel able to financially support the building project please email build@streetbaptist.co.uk and one of our building team will contact you.
